The fundamentals of value-based healthcare

How much more efficient and value adding our healthcare system could be, if we measured it correctly?

Aging population, developing technology and growing healthcare expenses are all global trends. But do we get value for our increasing investment in health?

At the same time, it is estimated that 10-34% of healthcare is inappropriate or the dedicated resources are wasted. For example, up to 50% of antimicrobial prescriptions are unnecessary, and so are 12-56% of emergency visits. (1) Ineffective treatment that does not provide value to the patient, healthcare system and society is not only waste of resources but also potentially increases human suffering.
